Honda Mountain Bike: The New Standard

In February of 2003, the Honda mountain bike was introduced. The bikes were developed for downhill racing in Japan and are very durable. It might seem a bit odd that car companies are now producing bicycles, but it seems to be the new standard. These companies are realizing that the market is expanding in the cycling world and that there is money to be made. In addition, they are realizing that they will be able to target cyclists and perhaps even get them interested in a new car!

Although buying bicycles from car manufacturers can get you a great quality bicycle, one has to realize that these companies are still fairly new to the market. Their products have to be carefully examined and researched before purchase. With older companies, their models have had time to work out the kinks and modify designs to further meet the needs of cyclists. Some car manufacturers that have turned to cycling might not have gotten this far.

No matter what you decide, buy any bicycle based on fit and personal comfort. It doesn't matter who has produced your bicycle if it isn't a fit for your riding needs. In addition, don't get sucked into the hype. A lot of companies make outrageous claims that can't be substantiated. Make sure that you thoroughly research any and all companies you are considering buying from. If you aren't sure, talk to other cyclists and the professionals at your local cycling shop. They'll be able to point you in the right direction for all your bicycles.
