Whether you choose bicycling skull caps or any other type of headwear, you should have at least a few for the varying cold weather you might encounter. A cold head will make you want to head home long before your ride is over.

Choosing a head covering shouldn't be too difficult. You must not, however, choose any sort of head covering that is too tight. This can cause the blood flow to your brain to get cut off, causing dizziness and even fainting. The last thing any cyclist wants to do is pass out in the middle of rush hour traffic. It isn't safe, nor is it pleasant. For that reason, choose a head covering that is snug, but still comfortable. You should be able to turn your head without any problems. You should also be able to slide four fingers between your head and the covering without any struggle.

Look for a head covering that is smooth and that will not interfere with your helmet. If it makes you uncomfortable, bypass it. You don't ever want to have to choose between warmth and safety if you are a long way from home on a ride. Rather, take your helmet with you when you try on any sort of head coverings and ask an expert what they recommend. They might think of additional factors needed by cycling apparel that you haven't yet considered.
